COMMERCIAL BACKGROUND

Jamie has over 21 years management experience in Direct Marketing and its associated services. He started as a Sales Representative working for the News Corporation and John Fairfax & Sons, Australia's two media giants. Following this Jamie moved to Salmat, a direct mail giant. Salmat have extensive data bases and provide clients with complete packages from strategy, artwork and production and finally through to distribution.

To round off his already interesting career, Jamie then left Salmat to work in the telemarketing industry; the other side of the advertising and marketing industry. His role was that of Business Development Manager for RGM Telemarketing.

A new horizon then appeared in 1994. The CEO of Chubb Plc UK, Mr David Peacock, took strategic aim at the virtually untapped residential security market. He set up an Australian business. Jamie was sourced and along with the management team had to break new ground in many areas.

After two years Jamie again was beckoned by the print media industry and worked for the Newspaper Advertising Bureau of Australia as their Business Development Manager. His role was that of promoting the use of Newspapers as an Advertising medium. This might sound like a statement of the obvious but one must remember that the Internet was just starting to attack traditional newspaper markets.

From here Jamie then moved onto GBM Logic as their Sales & Marketing Manager.
In this position he was responsible for Data Processing & Mail Processing Services.
Apart from winning several key accounts Jamie managed a sale force of ten people, and met his personal sales budgets of $A2 million plus per annum.

Jamie then moved into the position of National Marketing Manager for GBC; a national player in supplying office technology to Australasian businesses. Again he broadened his field of experience in direct marketing by taking in products that included amongst other things, Mailroom Equipment and associated software.

Jamie's last position before joining the ranks of Periscope Management Consultants was that of Marketing & Postal Strategy Director for Pitney Bowes. Pitney Bowes are an International player with in excess of 35,000 employees worldwide and projected turnover in 2005 of $US1.5 billion. Jamie was responsible for the following achievements;

  • Developed and introduced a strategy to target the government sector. This resulted in being invited to tender for the Department of Finance & Administration contract ($2M+) and a 2% market share gain from a competitor to Pitney Bowes and overall business year on year growth exceeding 4.5% p/a.
  • Devised a targeted campaign to uncover new business opportunities across all product and customer segments, this resulted in over $700K business (with $500K being new business) in the first 12 weeks of the campaign.
  • Recognised an opportunity for new technology integration in New Zealand, the result was the successful introduction of "IntelliLink" (digital postal metering).
  • Booked and fulfilled industry trade show event participation realising in excess of $500K in revenue.
Three things clearly stand out about Jamie's background. Firstly, the breadth of his work experience not only with industry giants but also with specialist niche players. Secondly, is the breadth and depth of his experience with all facets of the Direct Market mix. Lastly, Jamie has clearly made Direct Marketing his chosen profession.
